The milestone marks a significant achievement for a partnership designed to make ecological stewardship accessible to everyday shoppers. By simply choosing household, personal care, and baby items from the designated product line, consumers have contributed to a growing pool of funds dedicated to protecting the wild things and wild places that define the Texas landscape.
Anne Brown, Executive Director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, emphasized the collaborative nature of the achievement and the accessibility it provides to the public.
"This partnership gives Texans an easy way to be part of conservation," Brown said. "By choosing Field & Future products, H-E-B customers are helping conserve Texas lands, waters, and wildlife. Reaching $1 million shows what we can accomplish together. We’re grateful to H-E-B for making conservation part of its commitment to Texas and giving its customers a way to join in."
Over the past two years, the funds generated through the partnership have breathed new life into a diverse array of conservation and ecological restoration projects spanning the vast expanse of the state. These initiatives range from coastal marine habitats in the Gulf of Mexico to rugged mountain ranges in West Texas and newly established state parks in North Texas.
Among the high-profile beneficiaries of the funding is the newly opened Palo Pinto Mountains State Park in North Texas, which welcomed its first visitors in March of this year. Since opening its gates, the park has already drawn more than 50,000 Texans eager to experience the region’s native creatures and landscapes through hiking, camping, fishing, and other outdoor recreational activities.
Further west, researchers have utilized partnership-backed resources to monitor and study wildlife populations in remote terrain. Biologists in West Texas have successfully fitted 46 wild black bears with specialized tracking collars. This ongoing research allows wildlife experts to closely monitor animal movements, map out critical habitat needs, and gather vital data regarding population dynamics as black bears gradually return to their historic home ranges in the western regions of the state.
Along the dynamic Texas coastline, the partnership has also funded crucial marine restoration work. Conservation partners have been actively restoring dozens of acres of damaged oyster reefs. These living shorelines play an essential dual role in the coastal ecosystem, providing robust habitat and breeding grounds for a wide variety of marine life while simultaneously filtering the water to improve overall water quality along the coast.
The vehicle for these widespread conservation victories is the Field & Future by H-E-B™ product line itself, which was carefully formulated to appeal to consumers looking to minimize their ecological footprint without sacrificing product quality or performance. The extensive product catalog encompasses a wide variety of everyday essentials, including household cleaners, personal care items, and baby products, all developed to be clean and green for both Texas families and the broader environment.
To achieve this standard of sustainability, the products are manufactured without the inclusion of hundreds of harsh chemicals commonly found in conventional goods. Furthermore, the line incorporates forward-thinking design features such as post-consumer recycled packaging materials, biodegradable formulas, and plant-based ingredients. These intentional manufacturing choices are specifically intended to reduce the strain that consumer goods place on natural resources.
Leslie Sweet, Managing Director of Sustainability and Environmental Affairs at H-E-B, noted that the product line reflects a core company value of balancing consumer demands with corporate responsibility toward the environment.
"H-E-B is proud to offer products that meet our customers’ expectations for performance and quality and also designed with the environment in mind," Sweet said. "We’re grateful to Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation for partnering with us on our shared commitment to protecting and preserving Texas, and look forward to building on this work together, with a growing focus on water stewardship in our state."
The collaborative funding driven by everyday shoppers represents only one facet of H-E-B’s broader financial support for state conservation initiatives. In addition to the customer-generated contributions through the product line giveback, H-E-B has directly invested more than $1.4 million since 2022. These direct corporate investments have specifically bolstered the Texas State Parks Centennial Campaign and the Pollinators & Prairies Program, further cementing the retailer’s dedication to safeguarding the state’s natural heritage for future generations.
As H-E-B and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation pause to celebrate the $1 million milestone, leadership from both organizations is already looking ahead to the next phase of the collaboration. The upcoming chapter of the partnership will pivot toward an intensified focus on water stewardship, targeting Texas rivers, vital watersheds, and fragile coastal ecosystems.
Texas waterways hold immense ecological, recreational, and economic importance. Beyond providing essential habitats for native wildlife and serving as scenic destinations for residents who enjoy fishing, paddling, and spending time outdoors, healthy watersheds are vital for the countless communities, agricultural producers, and commercial enterprises that rely on clean, reliable water supplies every single day. By directing future conservation efforts toward these aquatic resources, the partnership aims to ensure that Texas rivers and watersheds remain protected and resilient for generations to come.
