Gencom and White Bridge Capital Acquire Iconic InterContinental Miami for $300 Million

Gencom, in a strategic partnership with Miami-based White Bridge Capital, has officially announced the acquisition of the iconic InterContinental Miami. Long established as a definitive fixture of the Downtown Miami skyline, the 652-room waterfront property at 100 Chopin Plaza is one of the city’s most recognizable hospitality landmarks. Strategically situated at the vital confluence of the Miami River and Biscayne Bay, the hotel anchors the heart of Miami’s bustling business, financial, and cultural center.

According to Bloomberg, which cited a person familiar with the transaction, the property reportedly traded for approximately $300 million. While the purchasing parties did not publicly disclose the specific financial terms of the purchase, the high-profile deal represents a major transaction in the Southeast United States commercial real estate market and underscores continued institutional appetite for premier hospitality assets in top-tier gateway cities.

This acquisition marks Gencom’s latest marquee luxury hotel asset in the Miami market and its second property operating under the InterContinental brand. The move closely follows the firm’s acquisition of the InterContinental New York Times Square in late 2025. By adding this massive 34-story waterfront hotel to its holdings, Gencom further expands its extensive hospitality real estate portfolio while signaling profound confidence in South Florida’s continued trajectory as a global hub for business, international tourism, and cross-border investment. The property enjoys a commanding physical presence, offering high visibility near the vibrant Brickell financial district, scenic Bayfront Park, world-renowned cultural institutions, PortMiami, and the city’s thriving Central Business District.

For Gencom, the acquisition deepens an already substantial and historic footprint across premier Miami real estate assets. Among the firm’s notable local holdings is The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, a property Gencom co-developed in the late 1990s that recently underwent a sweeping, multi-million-dollar transformation exceeding $100 million across its 423 oceanfront keys. Additionally, in December 2025, Gencom reacquired a majority interest in the 115-key Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove, further reaffirming the firm’s long-term operational commitment to the local market and demonstrating its enduring belief in the neighborhood’s upscale appeal.

Beyond its existing coastal and neighborhood luxury assets, Gencom is also doubling down on the urban core of Downtown Miami. The firm is actively advancing the Miami Riverbridge project, an ambitious, privately funded joint venture with Hyatt valued at more than $1.5 billion. This transformative redevelopment project will overhaul the existing Hyatt Regency Miami and James L. Knight Center site along the banks of the Miami River. Upon completion, the master-planned site is slated to feature two new hotels, 700 residential apartments, 200,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event space, and 50,000 square feet of accessible public green space, reshaping the city’s western urban waterfront.

“InterContinental Miami is a significant addition to Gencom’s portfolio and represents an important opportunity to deepen our presence in one of the most dynamic and globally recognized markets in the country,” said Alessandro Colantonio, Chief Investment Officer at Gencom. “We have built a substantial footprint across some of Miami’s most prominent hospitality and mixed-use destinations. Adding the InterContinental Miami further strengthens the portfolio and gives us an exceptional waterfront asset in the heart of Downtown Miami, a location that we believe will continue to benefit from the city’s long-term economic growth.”

From a physical and operational standpoint, the InterContinental Miami offers a diverse selection of room and suite configurations designed to cater to high-end travelers. The property features 22 specialized suites ranging in size from approximately 850 square feet up to the expansive 2,800-square-foot Presidential and Royal Suites. Standard guest accommodations average approximately 405 square feet, many providing striking, unobstructed views across the waters of Biscayne Bay and the dense Miami urban skyline. The hotel has also recently completed a comprehensive capital expenditure program and renovation cycle. This multi-phase modernization updated room interiors with contemporary furnishings, refined finishes, and advanced guest-room technology, while concurrently refreshing the exclusive Club InterContinental Lounge, upgrading the outdoor pool cabanas, and enhancing the expansive SkyLawn outdoor event venue.

“The InterContinental Miami’s significant recent capital investment, strong operating performance and diversified mix of leisure, corporate and group business provide a solid foundation for long-term value creation to Gencom and its investors,” said Ignasi Puig, Managing Director of Acquisitions at Gencom. “Given the recently completed renovation, we can focus on strengthening revenue across rooms, meetings and events, and dining while building on the enhanced guest experience in a market with substantial barriers to entry, the latter of which continues to be a key theme in the firm’s broader investment strategy.”

White Bridge Capital, working alongside its network of international family office partners, contributed a significant portion of the required equity capital to complete the acquisition. The firm played an integral role in structuring and executing the transaction, thereby further solidifying White Bridge Capital’s ongoing strategic partnership with Gencom. The successful closing of the deal highlights persistent institutional and private family office demand for trophy hospitality real estate situated in tightly controlled, high-barrier-to-entry urban markets, particularly when backed by established, experienced sponsors.

Tommy Campbell, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of White Bridge Capital, commented, “Our partnership with Gencom reflects our commitment to pursuing extremely unique investment opportunities alongside best-in-class sponsors who share our vision for unlocking the full potential of exceptional assets.”

“This transaction is a strong reflection of White Bridge Capital’s investment philosophy and that of our family office partners, centered on investing in irreplaceable assets with strong long-term fundamentals in premier gateway markets,” added Regina Garcia Handal, Chief Investment Officer of White Bridge Capital.

Engineered to accommodate high-end leisure travelers, corporate executives, large-scale conventions, and social events, the property’s infrastructure is exceptionally robust. It includes 35 dedicated meeting rooms and more than 90,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space. Guest amenities are comprehensive, featuring a rooftop swimming pool flanked by private cabanas, a full-service wellness spa, a modern fitness center, a fully equipped business center, the private Club InterContinental Lounge, and several on-site retail options.

The hotel’s food-and-beverage program provides a distinct, destination-driven culinary experience for both overnight guests and local residents. Standout dining venues include Toro Toro, the acclaimed Pan-Latin steakhouse helmed by celebrity chef Richard Sandoval; Bluewater, the property’s elevated rooftop restaurant and bar offering sweeping panoramas of Biscayne Bay; Ole; an on-site Starbucks location; and Freddy’s Speakeasy. The latter is an intimate, reservation-only, Prohibition-inspired cocktail lounge that has earned notable regional and national acclaim, having been ranked as the No. 1 Hotel Bar by the Miami New Times and recognized by Wine Enthusiast among the Best Hotel Bars in America.

The acquisition comes at a time when Downtown Miami continues to experience robust secular tailwinds. The urban core benefits heavily from steady corporate relocations, sustained institutional investment in residential and commercial mixed-use developments, rapid expansion across the financial technology and wealth management sectors, and Miami’s surging international tourism profile. Furthermore, the market’s vibrant year-round calendar of major international events—such as Art Basel Miami Beach, the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, Miami Music Week, and the Miami Open tennis tournament—continually underpins lodging demand from a lucrative mix of domestic and international visitors.

As part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ expansive Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, the InterContinental brand has spent nearly 80 years pioneering luxury travel experiences across the globe. Widely regarded as the world’s first and largest international luxury hotel brand, InterContinental continues to introduce high-end accommodations to key commercial and leisure destinations worldwide, maintaining a vast global portfolio that spans nearly 350 open or actively developing properties.
